Janak,

There are couplers available and are being used widely in US and UK. I have done a few projects where such couplers are used effectively. You can use LENTON make couplers. You can visit their site and get
more information based on your specific requirement.

Vikas

Dear all,
1.Certainly there is reduction in ductility reinf if shear walls are provided.only 25% shear to be resisted by remaining frame means less plastic hinge moments provided for.so less is shear & hence reinf.
2.Mr Pankaj too is absolutely right.Further it may not be necessary to consider plastic hinges in all the beams.lintel/plith/some wall beams may be considered hinged on both sides.
3.Has anybody got access to French codes especially wrt ductility shear reinf.?
regards,
p kadam

Dear Janak,

If you refer to table 7 of IS-1893-2002, you will notice that R is high for
ductile detailed systems in comparison to non-ductile detailed systems. This
implies that ductile detailing is ACTUALLY A MORE ECONOMICAL SYSTEM for
designing seismic resistant structures. If you study this table with care,
all your queries related to the ductile detailing will be resolved.

Regards

Pankaj
