Dear Engineers, The RCC slabs are covered with 100mm thick Mud Pushka with Gover leaping and tiles grouted with cement morter 1:3 mix.Sone times we treat the rcc slab surface with water profing before laying mud-pushka,Is there any other method available to avoid this general practice since in rainy seasons this delays the completion of building? with regards, rabinder Shekher ___________________________________________________

RCC Slab Roof Coverings
It is possible to apply another system for the roof coverings as Roofing
Scabble the whole surface so that all laitance is removed
Ensure that all the services bases or plinths have been constructed.
Distribute the surface into bays & provide the whole surface a slope of 1.25 % so that the storm water discharge/drainage is flown to the outlets.
The alternate bays should be formed not to exceed one bay 20 m^2 or to engineer’s convenience
Pour the bays with the cement mortar 1:6 semidry or 1:2:4 concrete using 12mm nominal size aggregate
Pour the remaining alternate bays next days after proper cleaning the sides/ joints etc
After due curing & drying the whole surface of the roof, apply water proofing in one go.
Test the waterproofing by filling the whole surface for 72 hours & plugging all the outlets so that no water is leaked out
Visually observe the leakage if any & if so, apply remedial treatment according to the specialist material supplier’s/ material’s manufacture’s instructions.
Re-test if so required otherwise continue the work by draining out the filled water & allowing the waterproofing surface dry out.
Fix into place 50 mm extruded polystyrene on the waterproofed surface
Spread aggregate on to the polystyrene in the slab is inaccessible
Fix concrete tiles 500x500 mm on to the polystyrene if the surface is accessible
Grout the tiles joints
Similarly take care of waterproofing skirting insertion into the chases etc & use Aluminum flashing over concrete skirting.

Visually observe the leakage if any & if so, apply remedial treatment according to the specialist material supplier’s/ material’s manufacture’s instructions.

Fix into place 50 mm extruded polystyrene supported on edge spacers on the waterproofed surface
Spread aggregate 50 mm in thickness on to the polystyrene if the slab is inaccessible or
Fix concrete tiles 500x500 x50mm on to the polystyrene if the surface is accessible
Grout seal the tiles joints
Similarly take care of waterproofing skirting insertion into the chases etc & use Aluminum flashing over concrete skirting.

Test the waterproofing by filling the whole surface for 72 hours & plugging all the outlets so that no water is leaked out
Visually observe the leakage if any & if so, apply remedial treatment according to the specialist material supplier’s/ material’s manufacture’s instructions.

Fix into place 50 mm extruded polystyrene tiles 600x600mm of density 32 kg/cum supported on edge spacers on the waterproofed surface
Spread aggregate 50 mm in thickness on to the polystyrene if the slab is inaccessible or
Fix concrete tiles 500x500x50mm on to the polystyrene if the surface is accessible
Grout/seal the tiles joints
Similarly take care of waterproofing skirting insertion into the chases etc & use Aluminum flashing over concrete skirting.
