Hi,
I modelled the raft with plates in staad and used the plate matsupport.  I am getting negative base pressure. what is significance ofthis.  how this is to be considered for the design?

you might be getting negative earth pressure in case of lateral load
on structure overlying on it .....

this may be due to insufficient width and length of raft or due to less thickness of raft
try out these two thing it will work .. in other case you upload your STAAD model
if span of raft is too large model it seperately  by providing construction joint .

Hi,
In my case, structure is subjected to lateral earth pressure and uplift.  In my staad model i have given the plate mat support with compression only spring since uplift is also acting in the structure.  Is it advisable to give compression only spring?  Staad model is attached for your reference.
