Dear members

I am designing a continuous cantilever beam with point load acting at the tip of the beam. There is no torsional restraint has been provided at the support.

If the point load is acting above the shear center(on the Flange of symmetrical I beam) but the line of action of load is passing through the shear center of I beam should i consider this loading as Normal or Destabilize loading.

The effective length factor has been given in the table 16 of IS 800. Should i take factor for Normal loading or destabilize loading.

Your early response will be appreciable.

Regards
Kunal
