Dear Dipes
Please go thru the Appendix E of IS 456 where the edge conditions and the
subsequent selection of coefficients for slab design have been explained in
detail.
The continuity of slab being designed has to be realistic and based on the
actual edge conditions in your framing plans;pl let me know if you still
have any doubts after u go thru the Code.
Regards
Sangeeta

Whenever there is continuity of slab it should be considered in the
design as the Moments develop at support and reinforcement should be
provided at top over supports. If simply supported condition (i.e
discontinous at support) is assumed then the moment developed at
support is considered as zero and no rft is provided at top over
support (except for nominal rft) and the slab will crack above support
though the slab may not collapse as the rft at mid span would be
suffficient for strength.
