Hello,
Prying forces are generally considered in a hanger type connection. In this connection due to the pull the bending of plate or an angle occures due to which the force is generated at the outer edge of the connection element and that is called as prying force.

HI Nrupen,
When the connecting member is not very stiff and undregoes deformation
at connection then the force generated at contact surface of the
outstanding part of connecting member beyond bolt is prying force.

Let, Tee is connected to plate with two bolts at each side of web of
Tee. If the flange of tee is relatively flexible, it bends under applied
load and the flanges outside the bolts are pressed against the
supporting plate. The reactions generated at the points of contacts are
Prying forces.

Prying forces are significant when connecting member is not very stiff
and can undergo deformation. Also when connected part spans between two
or more supporting parts.
