Dear all,

I am designing RC Annular Raft for 275m tall chimney by IS-11089 simplified pressure approach theory. There is no any considerations for  torsional moment.

Is it necessary to find out torsional moment for annular raft??? or this torsional moment is already taken care in the equations define for radial & torsional moment in IS-11089??

I go with the "TALL CHIMNEY By S.N. Manohar" in this book pg. 74 some conditions are mention i.e

At  r= αa, Mri = 0

At  r= a, Mre = 0

At  r= βa, wi=we=0 and Mri = Mre.

Conditions mention above is not satisfied as per my calculations.

Please advice me to adopt correct method for annular raft design.

Thanks & Regards,
Padmakant Patel

Dear Prabhakar Sir,

I beg your leave to point out that Mt in Manohar's book is the circumferential direction moment, and not the torsional moment. As for Er Padmakant's query, IS: 11089 provides the maximum radial and circumferential direction moments Mr and Mt at the leeward side of the foundation, and at this location, the twisting moment Mrt is found to be zero.

Respectful regards,

Abhijeet Oundhakar
