Dear Sefians,

Most of us are aware about the deteriorating Road Situtaions in Mumbai since past couple of years. The role of common men, corporation (and their paid contractors), corporates and NGOs is getting mixed (rather confused !) with each other.

Not just the interior Roads but the highways are equally bad from ridding quality consideration.

In rainy season the situation goes beyond 'worse' !.

The roads with big pot-holes, water-logged, traffic jams, heavy slopes, construction-dust flying arround . . . etc. etc.

When will we have Good Roads !! (. . . I know the answer is 'NEVER'. . . but this post is written out of flash reactions and feeling of 'helplessness')

Dear Er. Vivek Abhayankar,

Yes, potholes in Mumbai have become a menace over the past few years. The authorities should employ good contractors to do the repair work.  I had drawn cartoons on the subject in ICJ earlier which I am attaching herewith.

When I shared my experience to a few more people, got a few responses from Bangalore, Delhi-NCR and other areas. I could see many immergency services like ambulance getting trapped in traffic jams due to bad road conditions. It is really upsetting . . . now time has come when we display such cartooon / slogans on the road side as a pinch to our leaders, who display big hoardings for 'Birthday wishes' to various party leaders and their sons (spend lakhs of rupees on hoarding but zero on roads) !

Dear Er. Vivek Abhayankar,

As it is reported in newspapers and TV media, there appears to be high corruptions in the road repair contracts by which the quality of material used, workmanship and supervision suffer badly resulting only shoddy workmanship.  With that, how can it last long?  The potholes reappear in the next year only.  Besides, we should blame our own fellow Indians who throw all rubbish things to the road drains, nallas, causing floods in most big cities and towns.

We have to be more honest and disciplined in life.

With best wishes,

N. Prabhakar

Just a thought . . . . the pot holes may be categorized as pre-planned ground water harvesting technique by the authorities.

And for all those who want to laugh out aloud on road conditions, please do watch along with your family members the following : Smile
