Dear All,

We hope everyone had two good days of discussion on Sections 7 & 8.  
There were good level of participation and most of the queries and
comments were discussed and responded by our fellow SEFIans.

One item which probably needs some clarification is:

Comment: Clause 7.3.11 is in contradiction with Table 1 in Section 5,
which prohibits use of flat slab in Zone IV & V. But 7.3.11 says to
ignore stiffness of flat slab. Code should be consistent with its
provisions, one can be confused to use whether use flat slab system or
not in those zones.

Response: Clause 7.3.11 restricts the use of flat slab column frames
stiffness to be considered for lateral resistance of the structure and
Table 1 is consistent with this requirement by not listing it among
acceptable lateral load resitting system.  Flat slab could be used as
gravity system subject the requirements of IS 1893.
