Clause 8.1.3.3.1 permits to exclude backstay effect for tall buildings with seismic joint between tower and podium. However, clause 9.6 requires to avoid expansion joint in basement of tall building. Does it meen that seismic joint can be provided but expansion joint can not be provided? |

Clause 9.6 refers to the expansion joints within the building as opposed to the separation joint between the building and the podium. Closing of this joint will result in analysis similar to 8.1.3.3.3 (towers connected by podium) and not 8.1.3.3.1.
