About the Book

Professional Ethics is a textbook designed for budding engineers, managers, and other professionals. It will aid them in understanding concepts that will enable them to effectively resolve the ethical issues they will face in their professional lives.  

Starting with basic terminologies and ethical views of many thinkers from India and abroad, the book discusses the basic tenets of professionals and professionalism, moral development theories and ethical theories, ethics in engineering, engineers' responsibility for safety, and responsibilities and rights of individuals and professionals. Global ethical issues including corporate social responsibility, media, war, and research are also considered. Intellectual property rights, ethics audit, and development and detailing of ethical codes from professional engineering bodies are discussed in this book. In addition to these, a chapter is devoted to a discussion on human values and attitudes, which form the basis of ethical decisions and actions.

About the Author
R. Subramanian retired as Professor and Head of the Civil Engineering Department of the National Institute of Technical Teachers Training and Research, Chandigarh. He has over 35 years of experience in teaching subjects such as applied mechanics, strength of materials, theory of structures, and other related subjects to both undergraduate and postgraduate students. He has worked for several years in the areas of teacher training, curriculum development, instructional design, and instructional material development.  Prof. Subramanian has also authored Strength of Materials, Surveying and Levelling and Strength of Materials: Theory and Problems, all published by OUP, India.
