Dear SEFIans,
Clause 4.9 (Hydrodynamic Pressure) of IS 1893(part2):2014 discusses how to calculate manually the hydrodynamic pressure on an elevated tank wall. Also, the IS code suggests that the Hydrodynamic pressure is to be included in the analysis and design of a water tank in zones III,IV and V.
Query : To include Hydrodynamic pressure in the time-history analysis of a water tank, water is to be modeled in any analysis software. So, Is it possible to model water and find out hydrodynamic pressure in STAAD Pro or SAP2000? Also, different earthquake ground motions would exert different dynamic forces on the tank wall when water tank is subjected to earthquakes. So, hydrodynamic pressures do vary with earthquakes and the values of hydrodynamic pressures will vary each second due to the dynamic nature of force of an earthquake in contrast to single valued hydrodynamic pressure calculated using IS 1893(part2):2014.
Kindly suggest. Thank you in Advance |
