Sir,
Previously Salem was in seismic  zone II. Now as per IS1893 part 1-2016 it comes under seismic zone III. Since Mettur Dam   is part of Salem district it is under zone III only. in TNEB, in all our project we mentioned zone III for design puropse.

Dear Er Rajan and Er Adhikari,

Even in the 2002 version of the code (5th Rev) Salem was in seismic  Zone III only with Zone factor = 0.16.

Only Cuddalore was mentioned as seismic zone III in the 2002 version of the code (5th Rev), but later corrected as Zone II with Zone factor =0.10.

With that correction, Annex E of Revision 6 of IS 1893 (Part 1) is the same as in the 2002 version of the code (5th Rev)

Warm regards
NS

Thanks for the information sir.

Actually I have been to Mettur once for a Power plant project.
It was a for a renowned chemical plant in Mettur. I have designed it for zone III only in 2008.

But somewhere... some body mentioned it as zone II and some website still shows it as zone II..so i got a bit confused.

S Adhikari
