Hello Sir,
I am designing a steel structure in Seismic Zone III and I >1. So I need to design structure as Special Moment Frame.
But I am not getting How to ensure clause 12.11.1 that SMF should be shown to withstand inelastic deformation corresponding to a joint rotation of 0.04 radians without degradation in strength ans stiffness ?

That Means I need to get Moment Rotation curve for each joint (rigid) ? And I think that can be done by pushover analysis ?

Dear Sir,

.04 radians is I think local rotation at joint, not global. Moment required for that rotation for each typical connection can be calculated by modelling that joint alone, and design the connections for that additional moment. I think thats the way. 


Anybody experts please comment.

If I remember correctly, the stiffness method with give xyz displacement as well as rotation at each joint!

Use connections mentioned in Annexure G of IS800 and your 0.04 rad rotation is automatically taken care of!
