Project Specifications
Contractor shall verify project specifications and drawings for following systems and develop as required and implement them.
Fire protection system including:
1     Fire water (freshwater) supply, storage and fire pumps (electric motor driven, diesel engine driven and jockey pumps).
2     Fire water distribution layouts (seawater & fresh water network systems), including deluge system.
3     Fixed and portable, manual and mobile firefighting equipment (including hydrants, hose reels, water spray nozzles and other specialised fire protection systems).
4     Fire protection of Analyser houses
5     Fire and Gas Detection And Alarm System
6     Fire and gas cause & effect charts
7     Contractor shall verify project specifications on Fire And Safety System / Fire Alarm And Gas Detection System, develop them, as required and utilise HSSD (High Sensitivity Smoke Detection) system.
8     Individual smoke detectors shall be ionisation type.
9     Contractor shall obtain necessary permits from supreme council and obtain import license for these detectors, respecting to which support, company / client shall issue recommendation letter to concerned authorities, if requested by contractor
10     Interface these Fire Alarm Systems with DCS system to alarm at Main Control room, existing plant fire / Incident Control Room at Main Gatehouse and a Fire Station #.
11     All buildings, main control room, LLCCís, substations, chlorination units etc. shall have fire, smoke detection and alarm systems, which would be interfaced to DCS at respective locations and eventually to CCR.
12     All information from phase system shall be available on operator desk in existing control room, existing Gate House and in new fire station #3.
13     Presently, all existing data & displays of phase are made available at plant fire / incident control room at Main Gatehouse through telephone link.
14     Location of this plant fire / incident control room is within Security Building located at main entrance of Plant Industrial City.
15     Fixed  and  portable  personnel  safety equipment, including safety showers  and face / eyewash stations are to be located at Electro Chlorination Plant and 33KV switchgear building, while Self Contained Eyewash Stations are to be located at all Battery rooms and Analyser Houses.
16     Safety studies and calculation reports, performed during FEED including operational safety study and FMEA / FTA study shall be updated by contractor.
17     Contractor shall carry out in consultation with company / client, a complete and detailed HAZOP study, during detailed engineering phase.
18     A third party independent chairman shall be appointed team leader, while HAZOP should be carried out per company / client requirement, indicated within relevant project specifications.
19     HAZOP review shall also, be carried out for vendorís packages.
20     Contractor in a report issued to company / client for review and approval shall detail findings and actions of study.
21     Contractor shall incorporate, as part of detailed engineering work, whatever modifications in network design requested / required by company / client to comply with relevant portion of study actions.
22     Contractor shall verify Storm Water Sewer Systems taking into account appropriate firewater disposal in event of a fire break out, in accordance with project specification.
23     Contractor shall develop escape route drawings for buildings.

Fire Protection, Detection and Safety System
1     Contractor shall update, design and provide fire protection, detection and safety systems, as developed during FEED.
2     Contractor shall be responsible for developing and establishing Fire Protection System, avoiding interference with underground facilities.  
3     Guidelines on number and types of firefighting equipment are given in company / client corporate philosophy for Fire & Safety (company / client) and its references.
4     Contractor shall verify, finalise and provide number and types of fire protection, detection and safety items shown / included as a minimum.

Cooling Water Pumps
1     Cooling water pumps are used for supplying heat exchangers with cooling water.
2     Respective flow rate varies, depending on heat flow to be dissipated.
3     Required head is determined by type of cooling system.
4     A distinction is made, between wet cooling and dry cooling processes.

Range of head and flow rate
1     Required heads for fresh water operation usually lie within 5 to 15 m.
2     In cooling tower operations, that can be as high as 20 to 35 m.
3     Flow rate depends on cooling process, characteristics of heat exchanger and on, whether pump is to be installed in a fossil-fuelled or a nuclear power station.

Reference values
1     Cooling with fresh water (see Wet cooling):
fossil-fuelled power station 100 -120 m3/MW
nuclear power station 140 -160 m3/MW
2     Indirect cooling with air (see Dry cooling):
fossil-fuelled power station 80 -100 m3/MW
nuclear power station 120 -140 m3/MW
Impeller types
1     Required range of heads ranging from 5 to 35 m is covered by three types of impellers.
2     Range of head, per impeller type
3     Up to 10 m axial propellers are generally used
(specific speed ns > 150 rpm)
4     From 10 to 25 m mixed flow propellers can be used (100 rpm < ns < 150 rpm)
5     From 10 to 40 m diagonal impellers (mixed flow impellers) are used (70 rpm < ns < 150 rpm)
6     Naturally, all three types can also, be installed in multistage pumps, which extend head range.
7     However, a multistage design always is more costly.
8     It is only selected, if such a type of pump is required to control flow rate.

Type of pump
1     Cooling water pumps are usually vertical shaft tubular casing pumps or volute casing pumps, which are made completely of metallic materials. See Figures related to  Cooling water pump

Electrochlorination
1     Electrochlorination is process of producing hypochlorite by passing electric current through salt water.
2     This disinfects  water and makes it safe for human use, such as for drinking water or swimming pools.

Process of electrochlorination is simple.
1     It is an electrolysis of saltwater to produce a chlorinated solution.
2     First step is removing whatever solids from saltwater.
3     Next, saltwater streams through an electrolyzer cell's channel of decreasing thickness.
4     One side of channel is a cathode, other is an anode.
5     A low voltage DC current is applied, electrolysis acts, producing sodium hypochlorite and hydrogen gas (H2).
6     Solution travels to a tank that separates hydrogen gas, based on its low density.
7     Only water and ordinary salt, (sodium chloride (NaCl)) are used.
8     Chemical reaction is: NaCl + H2O + ENERGY → NaOCl + H2
9     Energy is added to sodium chloride (table salt) in water, producing Sodium Hypochlorite and Hydrogen Gas.

a     Contractor shall be responsible for, but not be limited to following description.
b     Scope of work includes review and update of FEED specification and datasheets (as required for detail engineering development), fabrication, installation, testing and commissioning of equipment installed at:
1     Mechanical cleaning plant, Main Cooling Water Pump packages (Novated items), Utility Services, Electro Chlorination Plant, Lifting Equipment (for maintenance service),
2     Equipments installed at plant facilities are listed in equipment list of project phase.
3     All activities of procurement shall be carried out, during detail engineering, including development of material requisition / VDRL dossier.  
4     Contractor shall verify FEED specifications, datasheets, drawings, and update / develop, as required to implement them.
5     Contractor shall include in its work scope for development of equipment specification and procurement engineering documentation as required, when not included (missing or detail engineering development) in equipment list of project phase.

Main Cooling Water Pump Packages
1     Contractor shall take full responsibility of owning Novated main cooling seawater pump packages (including electrical motor and VSDS system items) for phase in accordance with contract, ensuring guaranteed pump performance.
2     Items included within above pumps package shall be, per purchase order dossier, while further procurement engineering up to commissioning shall be contractorís responsibility, with scope to include following requirements:
a     Expedite, review and approve vendorís data sheets and drawings.
b     Participate and witness all required factory and / or site inspection and testing
c     Ensure TPC is made available for items of these packages.
d     Organizing / conducting pump physical model tests at pump vendor works to demonstrate pump selection / performance,
e     Organizing / conducting sump (pit) model tests at specified subcontractor works to demonstrate pump hydraulic performance with all required functional flexibility, considering intake screening equipment, verify intake sump and consequently, screening equipment to finalize intake sump (and consequently, pumps house dimensions).
3     Sump model tests shall be carried out in presence of company / client and pump vendor.
4     Contractor shall take full responsibility to design and construct sump pit in accordance with above results.
5     Findings of sump model test report conducted by subcontractor shall be endorsed and implemented by contractor.
6     It may include provision for additional splitter, flow stabilizing device, a weir etc., as recommended in sump model test report.
7     Carry out string test at vendorís shop for first two main cooling water pump packages, including pumps, drivers, VSDSS and associated auxiliaries.
8     For other identical pump models, required performance tests shall be carried out at pump vendor works, using electrical test setup, established for previous string test.
9     All necessary coordination with vendors and / or sub contractors for timely delivery of contracted scope.
10     Prepare all As Built datasheets and drawings.
11     Carry out pre commissioning, commissioning and startup of pumps.

Deionized Water
What is Deionized Water?
1     Deionization ("DI Water" or "Demineralization") simply means the removal of ions
2     Ions are electrically charged atoms or molecules found in water that have, either a net negative or positive charge.
3     For many applications that use water as a rinse or ingredient, these ions are considered impurities and must be removed from water.
4     Ions with a positive charge are called "Cations" and ions with a negative charge are called "Anions".
5     Ion exchange resins are used to exchange non desirable cations and anions with hydrogen and hydroxyl, respectively, forming pure water (H20), which is not an ion.
6     How does ion exchange work?
7     Ion exchange resins are used to produce deionized water (demineralized water or "DI Water").
8     These resins are small plastic beads that are composed of organic polymer chains that have charged functional groups built into resin bead.
9     Each functional group has, either a fixed positive or fixed negative charge.
10     Charged Ions
a     Cation resin has a negative functional group and therefore, attracts positively charged ions.
b     There are two types of cation resins, weak acid cation (WAC) and strong acid cation (SAC).
c     Weak acid cation resin is used mainly in dealkalization and other unique applications.

For this reason is  focussed on explaining role of strong acid cation resins, used for producing deionized water:
a     Anion resin has a positive functional group and therefore, attracts negatively charged ions.
b     There are two types of anion resins, weak base anion (WBA) and strong base anion (SBA).
c     Both types of anion resins are used to produce deionized water, however, they have different characteristics listed below:
d     WBA resins do not remove silica, C02 or have ability to neutralize weak acids and has a lower than neutral pH, when used in a dual separate bed system.
e     SBA resins remove all anions in above table, including C02 and has a higher than neutral pH, when used in a dual separate bed system due to sodium leakage.
f     Mixed bed resins use SAC and SBA resins combined together.
g     In order to produce deionized water, cation resin is regenerated with Hydrochloric Acid (HCl).
h     Hydrogen (H+) is positively charged and therefore, attaches itself to negatively charged cation resin bead.
i     Anion resin is regenerated with sodium hydroxide (NaOH).
j     Hydroxyl (OH-) is negatively charged and attaches itself to positively charged anion resin bead.

Purified water
1     Purified water is water that has been mechanically filtered or processed to remove impurities and make it suitable for use.
2     Distilled water was, formerly, most common form of purified water, but, in recent years, water is more frequently purified by other processes including capacitive deionization, reverse osmosis, carbon filtering, microfiltration, ultrafiltration, ultraviolet oxidation, or electrodeionization.
3     Combinations of a number of these processes have come into use to produce ultrapure water of such high purity that its trace contaminants are measured in parts per billion (ppb) or parts per trillion (ppt).
4     Purified water has many uses, largely in production of medications, in science and engineering laboratories, industries and is produced in a range of purities.
5     It is also, used in commercial beverage industry, as primary ingredient of whatever given trademarked bottling formula, in order to maintain product consistency.
6     It can be produced on-site for immediate use or purchased in containers.
7     Purified water in colloquial English can also, refer to water that has been treated ("rendered potable") to neutralize, but not necessarily, remove contaminants considered harmful to humans or animals.

Deionised Water for VSDS
1     First fill of deionised water used for VSDS cooling system shall be provided by pump packages supplier.
2     All further topping up requirements shall be accomplished by supply of deionised water by contractor till contract completion.

2     Prepare and update package datasheets and specifications.
3     Prepare material requisition packages.
