EUGENE  FREYSSINET  ( 1879 - 1962 )

Born in Objat  ,Correrze , France  FREYSSINET was French CIVIL & STRUCTURAL ENGINEER with extraordinary contributions in Bridge  designs and major pioneer of PRESTRESSED CONCRETE. and  Studied the phenomenon of creep in much detail.

Graduated from ECOLE Polytechnique and ECOLE National des ponts et CHAUSSES , two of France most iconic engineering schools , FREYSSINET began his career as Highway engineer and also served French Army as Road engineer from 1904 to 1907 and again from 1914 - 1918.

EUGENE FREYSSINET was very passionate about concrete and it's applications, and constantly applied the principales he learnt during studies and through various projects , he discovered in detail the properties - strength , creep , Ductility of  Materials . Working for Freight Terminal in Paris in 1928, he invented and patented PRESTRESSED CONCRETE using High strength Concrete and High strength steel wires.

He designed several Bridges in France , but  3 span Pont le Veudre Rc concrete truss Bridge he designed and built in 1911 got destroyed in World War, gave him deep grief as it was his FIRST LOVED STRUCTURE.

FREYSSINET also worked on thin shell structures , Airship hangers , identifying CORRUGATED FORM  of concrete to achieve stiffness. Aso used forced steam around concrete moulds to shorten curing time. His largest bridge design is for Plougastel bridge , 3 spans each 180 m built in 1930.

HIS CAPACITY FOR CREATION , INNOVATIONS AND RESEARCH AND NON CONFORMITY WITH EXISTING IDEAS AND DOCTRINES made him one of the most notable STRUCTURAL ER in Civil Engineering.

FREYSSINET died in Saint Martin - vesubie France in 1962 leaving his group of companies across Globe.
