Dear Sir,
Wall design is to be done like a regular wall. Tripods are to be placed to reduce wave impact.
IS codes are also available on sea wall design for further reference.
Regards,
P.V.Gavarraju. |

Sea Wall Design -
It also depend on sea level at high tide to decide the height of wall providing ample margin for waves effects ..
The design of sea retaining wall is very critical at high tides with tidal waves hitting wall at height,, and uplift pressure decimates the gravity weight on wall ,, and moments may cause high eccentricity due to reduced net weight,,
Under low tide,, it needs to be designed for earth pressures and any LL surcharge (vehicular,, if road exist) ,,
The foundation must rest at level , not affected by tidal upliftment ,, movements ,, firm ,,
As guided by Er PV gavarraju,, the design philosophy is same as any other ret wall,, to be designed for two extreme conditions, one with sea water pr plus tidal pressure and ignoring passive soil pressure relief considering backfill washed condition
Second,, sea water at min low level,, but backfill pressures at back,,
RCC walls needs to be designed under uncrack philosophy taking crack width not more than 0.10mm,, otherwise wall will last much less,,
For places where shallow water levels are expected ,, Gabion stones can be thought off as wide stone walls,, |

I appreciate your response.
Further I suppose Gabion Technology of wall design will be ideal to such water front structures. Here scouring of sand in low tide will lead to Tetra-pad or rock fill in front and lower level of wall will get defined.
High tide will define wall height and water pressure to design. This will be critical to design. To situation, Gabion wall technology may be better with geo textile filter media to avoid back side sand dredging .
Further It can be rectified / corrected to needs in future to minor change in levels.
Other economical option is use of Sand bags, in case of shallow walls.
Please look in to. Thanks and Regards.

I also admire yr eagle eye viewpoint on sea wall,,
Yes Gabion walls are economical,, free draining resulting in less pressures of sea waves/tidal waves,, but it may require more width of sea wall,,
The wire crates,, I think, (not sure) be of Aluminium to resist saline water attack,, which may corrode MS /GI -
These are flexible walls and adjust to the terrain,, scourge etc
But IS Codes for further guidelines ,, be seen |
