Dear Sefians,

I have done my Project work On "Analysis of skew bridge for estimating seismic Vulnerability Using Fragility curves" in Post Graduation level.

Except that, i dont have any design experience in bridges. ButI am very much interested in design of Highway bridges.

So Could you please tell me that which book is good for reference for designing RCC, PSC and steel highway bridges as per Indian standardsas well as other standards.

Thank you,

Regards,

I think Dr VK Raina who is gem of Bridge and structural engineering and a living
legend has written maximum nos of books in field of Bridge engineering
on design, construction, contracting aspects for bridge structures. If you have
interest in the field of bridge design, please see his books along with books
by other authors in the field.

IRC codes on bridges and IRC standard drawings can be purchased from
IRC office at Delhi or from reputed Book agency.

But working with reputed consultants from outset can help to shape the career.

FOLLOWING SPREADSHEETS DEAL WITH ACTUAL DESIGN OF BRIDGE COMPONENTS :

Computation of dead load of an RC T - girder type superstructure.
Typical IRC live loadings and their placement longitudinally and transversally for computations during live load analysis in case of simply supported three lane decks.
Live load analysis for pier substructure below three lanes simply supporting decks.
Live load analysis for abutment substructure below three lanes simply supporting decks.
Computation of dead load for types of pier substructure.
Computation of centrifugal force.
Computation of earth pressure.
Computation of longitudinal forces in case of a continuous deck.
Computation of longitudinal movements over free bearings.
Computation of scour depth in the design of substructures.
Computation of longitudinal movements for combined effects of temperature, creep, shrinkage, etc.
Computation of flood water forces in the design of pier substructures.
Computation of wind forces in the design of pier substructures.
Computation of reaction factors for transverse load distribution based on Courbon's method.
Design of an RC T - Girder superstructure ( using Morice & Little method for transverse load distribution ).
Design of an RC T - Girder superstructure ( using results of live load analysis from STAAD III ).
Design of elastomeric bearings.
Computation of longitudinal movements for design of expansion joints.

Dear Vikram,

Thank you so much for your co-operation...
I have seen the book "Analysis, Design and Economcs" by Dr. Raina. In this book, he has given theoretically well description about design. But i wish to do design of bridge manually. So, if you have any material, please post it.

Thank you Sir.....

Dear Er Vallabhareddy

I think your wish to design a bridge manually is in right direction. It will provide you
the with basics/fundamentals .

Did some bridge designs during late seventies which was manual design era
May not able to help much on this front. You may have to work in reputed consultant's
office for learning .

Please refer to FHWA website/ Google search 'Bridge design(fhwanhi04043).pdf
for manual design of prestressed bridge - -443 pages

best regards
