Dear Sefians,
Greetings and best wishes for the festive season!
We have exciting news to share with you that will swell your hearts with joy and pride.
Prof. Dipti Ranjan Sahoo, Associate Dean (Infrastructure) and Professor of Structural Engineering in the Department of Civil Engineering, IIT Delhi, has been awarded Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar (SSB) Prize for contribution in Structural/Earthquake Engineering. Some of India's most accomplished scientists have been awardees and it is not an exaggeration to say that this is not unlike an "Indian Nobel" for researchers under 45 years of age. This award to Prof Sahoo is all the more special since the structural engineering community has received this award after a drought of over 55 years. Prior to this , it was awarded to the late Prof Jai Krishna of Roorkee University (now IIT Roorkee), regarded as the father of Earthquake engineering in India.
Prof Sahoo's research areas include performance-based earthquake design, hybrid simulation and testing, seismic fragility assessment, seismic strengthening techniques, and structural fire engineering. He has published more than 250 research articles in the area of earthquake and structural fire engineering and filed five patents on earthquake vibration control devices. Prof Sahoo has been actively associated with SEFI since his student days and later as an academician and has immensely contributed to the SEFI while engaging with the community through e-conferences moderations .
Prof Sahoo's winning the S S Bhatnagar (SSB) Award is a matter of immense pride for the structural engineering fraternity and for SEFI specially. We invite all of you to participate in celebrating this grand achievement. Join us along with SEFI founder and patron Prof Sudhir K. Jain to felicitate Prof Dipti Ranjan Sahoo. We have planned a virtual felicitation and talk via Zoom. Prof Sudhir Jain, currently Vice Chancellor of Benares Hindu University and erstwhile Director of IIT Gandhinagar and Professor of IIT Kanpur, will share his thoughts on the subject of "Developing a Scientific temperament in the Indian Structural Engineering Community". This will be followed by a talk by Prof Dipti Ranjan Sahoo on his research work leading to the SSB award.
This would indeed be an engaging and inspiring experience for the SEFI community, so mark the date Saturday 4th November 2023, 5pm-6pm IST. There will be an interactive Q&A session after the talk of Prof. Dipti Ranjan Sahoo.
The flyer for the virtual event via zoom is attached to this email. Eagerly looking forward to seeing you in the webinar.

Congratulations to Dr Dipti Ranjan Sahoo for the prestigious Award for contribution to Structural Engineering.
After a gap of 55 yrs
Structural engineers are generally Unsung heroes, mostly forgotten professional s,, and often ignored guests when Projects are completed / inagurated.
They are recognized rarely for their efforts , but such awards in recognition will boost the field of Structural Engineering, which of present see, less takers.
