Hello Esteemed Members,

I was surprised and scared to know that India is the biggest importer of Asbestos in the world. For people who don't know, it's a mineral which is know to cause severe form of cancer. Rightly, it's banned in 70+ countries since 70s.
In india its used in pipes, Roof sheets, tiles, brakes , clutches and even in the Iron-press used to iron clothes.

I dont know how our govt can be so out of touch and still use it.

My question to members who are into residential construction is, do tiles , ceramic, vitrified, bathroom etc do they have Asbestos in them? How to know?  Anyone who knows about manufacturing can please let us know.

Engineering education has hardly created any awareness regarding it and Ihope structural engineers who are designing stuff would be more mindful of it avoid its use.

Asbestos use in India -

I think,, mining of asbestos is banned in India.

But it's use in construction, trade still there and AC sheets, both corrugated,, plain available for roofing purposes. Plain sheets strips are also used in flooring as separators for making panels.
Asbestos pipes are not common due to friction and stcky nature.

But in India, asbestos items in construction industry still there.

Any Law banning their use,  I am naive to it.
