Dear Member,

The design of RC column members other than rectangular can be done using first principle.  This may include Triangular, Pentagonal, Hexagonal, Octagonal etc.

You have to prepare Pu-Mu interaction curves based on stress block and consideration of Neutral axis at various positions and the same is given in SP-16.  Instead of rectangular section, the property of desired sections is required to be considered.  This is more of a mathematical work.

The method given in SP 16 shall hold good for symmetrical sections.  For unsymmetrical sections like L and T columns, we need to work out the principal axis and then calculate the capacity curves.  As far as I remember, book by Sinha covers these cased.  You may refer to the same.

Regards,

Jignesh V Chokshi

Dear Er Sabarinathan,

I request you and others to browse the SEFI site before posting a question. This question was raised before and comments and references have been provided.

The Hand book by Prof. Sinha published by TMH contained the design of L, T, + columns.

Best wishes
NS
