Dear Sir,
Is stone dust is used as a replacement of sand (either partially replaced or fully replacement) in the concrete.

Dear Dipesh,
Many research works have been done in this area of replacing stone dust with sand. You can referer a paper entitled
“Performance of Concrete with Quarry Dust as fine aggregate “ – An Experimental Study, by
M. C. Narasimhan, B. T. Patil and Shankar H. Sanni, Civil Engineering and Construction Review, pp. 19-24, Sept. 1999.

Stone Dust In Concrete
- Stone dust is procured from crushers & therefore, may not be avilable at all locations but, it can be used & has been used on many projects.
- In past era, river sand (fine sand) was used. Pit sand (coarse sand) was used for concrete. For mortar (coarse sand) was used. For plaster (coarse + fine sand was used)
- In gulf, generally, dune sand was included as a partial replacement of cement in concrete. This was to obtain consistent concrete but, now it has been replaced by SCM PFA since, PFA allows good workability to concrete.
- Dust parent material is stone or rocks & therefore, it is strong enough & clean. It allows acceptable combined grading of aggregates. Other authors have already provided explanatory notes on this natural material.

IF WE USE THE STONE DUST THE SIEVE ANALYSIS MUST BE MADE TO ASCERTAIN THE GRADING AS PER IS SPECIFICATION.SECONDLY IT MUST BE CHECKED FOR THE LIMIT OF DELETERIOUS MATERIALS PERCENTAGE.THIS SAND SHALL ALSO BE WASHED BEFORE SELLING BY THE CRUSHER OWNERS.
MOST OF THE STONE QUARRIES ARE SUPPLYING IN THE PRETEXT OF M SAND AND THE QUALITY IS VERY POOR. IN THE ABSENCE OF SUFFICIENT QUANTITY OF RIVER SAND THE DUST PRODUCED FROM THE CRUSHERS ARE BEING SOLD AS M SAND
HENCE PROPER CHECK MUST BE MADE BEFORE PURCHASING MSAND

Dear Er. Dipesh,
Durability of concrete increase with the use of Quarry Rock Dust .In comming Days natural sand sources are decreases and rates are increases, so the use of Quarry rock dust may be prove useful considering Economy and Durability.Various Durability Studies carried out with BASALT ROCK DUST & MARBLE SLUDGE POWDER are Highlighted Previously in this on going e-Conference at below link:

Dear sir,
"Stone dust" is no way "manufactured sand". Part replacement 10 to 15% of sand may be attempted with trials & tests. Issue is to keep options while achieving concrete properties required.

Definitely, stone dust is a replacement for sand subjected to properties such as grain size distribution ,specific gravity etc are satisfied, However it is to be confirmed by lab testing
