Hi all , here goes my first post on the forum ....

I'm trying to model a 4 lane steel plate girder bridge in SAP and I have a ton of doubts . The basic specs are :

span : 30m simply supported with 5 bearings
width of deck : 20m
no. of stringers provided : 9
cross girder spacing : 3m

I've modelled it as a frame grillage . My doubts are :

1) I'm having problems controlling the deflection . I read somewhere that for this I could fill the gaps between stringers and cross girders in the model with shell elements to increase stiffness and this would be more accurate too . Is this right ? If not , how else can I increase stiffness without increasing depth of stringers too much ?

2) I have to introduce wind loads acting on live loads 1.5 m above carriageway level as per IRC:6 . How do I model this in SAP ?

(I'm still a student by the way so if these doubts seem too basic , do bear with me )

Thanks in advance Smile
