Dear sefians,

I had few doubts in loss calculation. Please i request u to do try to clarify

1. Friction loss calculation is made for the cable considering vertical alignment only why.  
2. Assume it as half parabolic and half straight profile in vertical profile and full parabolic in horizontal profile. Now, if friction loss calculation is to be made, in 3D, vertical and horizontal combined is somewhat parabolic, now how to calculate cumulative angle for this.
3. Do angle should match calculated with cadd dwg angle check, if so profile remaining same for stressing from one end n both ends, how can angle be same for same profile.

Please these things no text book have provided details and during college it never came to our mind. Please help me learn through your answers.

Dear Rakesh,

You are right, i have not come across such a situation but calculation of loss in tendon is a tedious process, so it may have been empirical equation.


SEFIans who have worked in this regard shall comment.

For PS losses due to frictions and slip, Locations of Elevation bending as well as

plan bending - - Start & End are noted and losses are calculated for Both EB & PB


Generally Plan bending is required in End bolck region and Bridge designers do
account for friction losses due to total anngle change (Elevation +Plan)
