Dear Shishir

The design of tunnel is very simple and easy in Staad Pro. IF your tunnel is rectangle in shape i can help to design by STAAD Pro.

Do the plate model and generate the plate mesh.

Calculate the modulus of subgrade reaction based on your SBC. Take 25mm differential settlement and 6 mm for industrial structures.

Calculate the earth pressure and assign in staad pro for side walls

The top of slab may subjected by Soil pressure(uniform Pressure)

If vehicle travel is allowed over the tunnel, apply surcharge load approx 20KN/sqm.

I hope it will help you

Regards

Hello Manikandan sir,

Thank you for your kindful reply. Sir, the tunnel that we are working on is:
1. Modified Horse Shoe Shape Diversion Tunnel
2. Finished Dia = 11 m
3. Excavated Dia= 12 m
4. Type of Rock = Gneiss
5. Strength of Rock = Fair to Poor
6. Poissons ratio = 0.25
7. Friction angle = 30 degree
8. Cohesion =0.46
9. Unit Weight of soil = 0.026 MN/Cum

Sir, I need to design a concrete lining of certain thickness and also a steel lining of I-section. The problem I am facing is to, how to move ahead with the design as this is my first time experience with such structure. Right now I am working with PHASE 2 software to study the stresses, its a FEM software for underground structures. I  am also reffering US Army corps of Engineers manual on tunnel design and also IS 4880 part (1,2,3,4,5,6,7) . I wanted to model this in staad and design the tunnel, Kindly do help me in this regard.
