I am young energetic consulting structural engineer. I am getting better result for steel design using STAD PRO when compared to ETABS. But for RCC design, ETABS holds good results when compared to STAD. Basically, which software's are good for taking bending moment and shear force in RCC design and Axial force, compression and tension force in Steel Design? ?

Can anyone suggest that on which basis software's are analyzing the structures? ?

Have a Great day SEFIANS.

Dear Jagadish,

Use of software is matter of perception, software is a tool like calculator with added advantages and complex solvers.

To be frank all the FEM packages are all same, but the modeling and display are different. The comfort to be found by user, whatever opinion one may give its his individual in this matter as the ultimate aim is to design effectively with minimum time spent.

I too agree that, STAAD is   better for steel analysis and design and ETABS for concrete and PT buildings ADAPT. However i have tried steel design using ETABS, resukts seems the same.

My dear friend,

You just can not compare final results of two different software without properly going throgh it.

As per my knowledge fpr steel design etabs is more versatile then staad, because it can work out effective length & unbraced length of member by itself. while in staad we have to assign them. So for quick and correct design etabs i more powerfull then staad as there are very less change of any blunder.....

So if try to make apple to apple comparison, etabs will be better.

Correct me if i am wrong......

Reply awaited.

What is meant by GOOD Results , better results ?
from the point of  economy / correctness of results / Proximity to real results /  As per codal provisions / Graphical output / speed ?
