Sir,
i am currently 4th year student of civil engineering. my question is- how to determine pile capasity from satic formula for a single pile in cohesive soil ?
unit weight of soil in each layer, SPT values in each layer, liquid limit and plastic limit are given.

Dear Er. Dripta Bandyopadhy,

For Pile Capacity Empirical Formulas are good using SPT and other soil parameters but a more accurate method widely used in USA is PILE LOAD TESTS.

In USA  Pile Capacity is derived from ASTM Load  Tests. They  are  given here. Allowable Pile Capacity is about half the Ultimate Load  and near 10 mm to 12m  Lateral  displacements.

Here are the three ASTM  Pile Load Tests.
D1143 / D1143M - 07
Standard Test Methods for Deep Foundations Under Static Axial Compressive Load.
D3689 - 07
Standard Test Methods for Deep Foundations Under Static Axial Tensile Load.
D3966 - 07
Standard Test Methods for Deep Foundations Under Lateral Load.

Regards.

thank you Mr. Vasudeo  Pandya.
but actually i am asked to determine the pile capasity using static formula given in IS 2911 part 1  for my project work and those given data are available. but i cant get values of C and phi. so, please let me know how or where can i get those values?

Dear SAFIAN,
I herewith attached the literature on Bored Cast insitu pile with load carrying capacity as per Static formula for soil in clay for reference.
