×Hi Sefians,
What are the special precautions to be taken while desiging footings on blcak cotton soil? Is raft footing a must for black cotton soil if the building is just G+1 industrial building?

Dear Shekhar,
You may have to go for piles since raft foundn will not be economical if
there
is no basement.

Pls ensure about the black cotton soil swell characteristics and anticipated
differential settlements.

Piles will no doubt be a better option, but only after load testing has
been done and the swell characteristics etc are known. Also Pl ensure
that isolated pile caps are tied with each-other using grade beams as
per IS 1893.
