Sub: Shear strength of RCC columns Sir, Could you please clarify me at some confusion coming across the strength of columns. In clause no. 7.3.4 of IS.13920:1993, the design shear force for columns are given. Again shear strength of columns are given in clause no.40.2.2 of IS 456:2000. Suppose if the shear strength of column happens to be less than the design shear force shall it be provided with shear stirrups in the form of transverse reinforcement as is given in clause 7.4 of IS.13920:1993 ? I have not come across the design of transverse reinforcement of columns in school textbooks read so far. So, I am hesitant to do it without confirmation from you.
