Dear Engineers,

Currently we are doing site clearing for piling works. However, we discovered that there is a pile raft foundation (factory previously) underneath the tower block footprint. In other words, this area suppose to be my tower block foundation but now is blocked by series of pile.

This existing piles are all small diameter in which can not be reuse for my tower foundation. Kindly please comment on this.

Dear Sir,

Following options can be adopted

First locate the pile groups, and then ascertain the allowable load carrying capacity of the pile groups. If the piles are at sufficient distance, then try to propose a revised pile layout (possibly driven piles)

Or try to work out the pile raft foundation, instead of pile foundation.

In my opinion, best option would be:

1. Try to use new bored cast-in-situ piles for your tower foundation.

2. The tower fdn, if feasible, shall be so located that new bored cast-in-situ piles for it's fdn will be placed in-between existing piles.

3. Design pile cap/raft fdn for tower ignoring existing piles even if they are inside the pile cap/reft for tower fdn.
