Hello everyone,

I am a civil engineer pursuing MSc in Computational Mechanics at University of Stuttgart in Germany. I have met a couple of German structural consultants who want to work in India. The first question they ask is how are the projects given out to designers in India. In Germany or Europe, architect and structural engineer together make a proposal and the project is awarded through a healthy competition. As far as I know, in India, projects are given out mostly through contacts or references even though there is a tendering process. Please correct me if I am wrong.

Is there any database/forum/magazine where the upcoming projects are listed? This question is not only from foreign consultants point of view but also for young indigenous structural consultants.

Best regards,
Sushant Goel

Dear Sushant

There is no available database as far as i know. The projects are floated by the client and tender is floated.Only few of the huge developers post ad.But normally the project is floated based on the requirement.

Structural engineering firms are chosen 90% of the times by architect.Only, few times a tender is posted.

Obviously if the project has Sound requirement of Engineering, Those projects (3-7%) will be floated for international tenders. 30% of the projects in India are just for the sake to prepare a supporting documents, remaining 63% of project client feels structural engineer wastes his time and penny, where the mason does better job, some time his own experience yields out marvelous results.
