Dear Mangesh,
Here are some good references for non-rectangular columns:
1. Mallikarjuna and P. Mahadevappa [1992] Computer Aided Analysis of Reinforced Concrete Columns Subjected to Axial Compression and Bending I- L Shaped Sections, Computers & Structures, Vol. 44 No. 5
2. Sinha, S.N. [1996] Design of Cross (+) Section of Column, Indian Concrete Journal, March 1996
There are several papers and a book published by Prof. Sinha on the subject.
If you prefer a software for doing the calculations, you may look for IRRCOL and GaLa on the Internet.
Demo version of DOS based program ARCI can be downloaded from http://rudranevatia.com/arcidemo.zip
Hope that helps.
Regards, Rudra Nevatia

Dear Mangesh,
Check out the interaction charts for design of L & + shaped columns in a text book on RCC design by Prof Sinha (probably from IIT Kanpur), published by Tata-McGraw Hill. The charts are a bit cumbersome to use, but will probably sort out your immediate problem.
Regards.

dear mangesh, if u are using staadpro, u will be required to feed the cross-sectional area, and moments of inertia for this section for the analysis stage. However, if u are handling it manually, maybe an approximation will be to try and find an equivalent rectangle or square(also match the M.I. as far as possible with that of the actual section) After this u can use prof Sinha's book for the structural design. regards Sangeeta Wij ----- Original Message ----- Message From <mangeshb@designexcel.com> To: <sdec@bol.net.in> Sent: Monday, October 18, 2004 9:27 AM Subject: design of L-COLUMN
