|
|
Dear Sefians,
I have a beam of depth 600mm which the bottom 100mm was hacked and recast to achieve 500mm depth.
The main rebars were cut and replanted to the column supports at a higher position.
The shear links however, the bottom loop was cut and was not reinstated. So now the links are in an invert 'U' shape (bottom main bars not looped by links). Kindly see attached beam section.
Will the beam still be effective in shear? Your valuable input would be highly appreciated.
Thank you very much
Niresh.

Yes, As per AcI -314M14
Vs = Av *fyt * d
only Av*d of shear stirrups resists the Shear
and the reinforcement along the breadth only extended for development requirements
hope it will be useful for you.
regards

Dear Er Niresh,
Without the bottom run, the shear links won't be able to develop full stress, and will be ineffective. Also, bottom bars won't be able to develop dowel action. The concept of leaving stirrups without anchorage is dangerously wrong and a disaster waiting to happen.
Hope seniors on this forum could see this post.

Dear Abhio,
Thank you for your valuable input. I would like to provide an update. We found out at site that there are excess length of link sufficient to wrap around the bottom rebar across the width of beam. We have also welded the locations where the link free ends lap each other.
Thank you very much.
