Dear Sefians,

I need your help on one doubt.
When we design one way continuous slabs there are intermediate beams which arein between the continuous slabs.
Can we design this beams as T-beams?
Since there will be negative moments at continuous ends of the slabs and henceif we design it as T-beams then its compression flange would be under tensionowing to negative moment at continuous portion of slabs and for designing it asT-beam and to get T-beam action we need flange to be under compression.

Kindly clarify this doubt of mine.

Sri. Naman,
In this case, only the middle of the beam where sagging moment occurs can be designed as T beam. At supports, the beam may be designed as ordinary rectangular beam.
