Dear Indian Engineers,

This communication may bring any kind of feeling to certain category of engineering graduates in India but it is advised that this communication is solely for the good of the engineering graduates in general

Gone through the Engineering Council of India web site published application form for the registration of the professional engineer in India

“It is suggested by the contents that any IIT/IIS etc graduate cannot make any mistake as well as cannot forget the engineering course studied during under graduation

It is suggested that no one in India has any right to question the capabilities of any B Tech after graduation

It is suggested that all the other engineering graduates from Indian universities/REC/Institutions etc cannot be trusted directly for they may copy or try any other arrangement just to get through the formal examination”

The aforesaid suggestions come from the requirement of  ‘no passing of examination #1’ for these IIT/IIS graduates & all other graduates have to pass that examination mandatory

Should we accept this criteria of ECI ?

Should it be inferred by this criteria that ECI shall be a realistic council giving uniform treatment to engineering graduates?

Should we think that IIT syllabus is more important & valuable than any other university/ REC /Institution syllabus & those engineers are superior in consideration?

Should we think that this criterion is a great respect for all other institutions?

Many more thoughts shall come to most of your vision while considering the contents of this communication & that those thoughts I shall like to know

One answer is true that engineering mishap shall not  require any IIT certificate prior to its occurrence

But every body has to start brain storming on this matter for that may impact on long-term basis

I hope u may realise what I mean is

Dear Eng Shenoy

Hope u could find time to read the charter & got certain legal information about IEI. Before any further discussion the term royal charter in u k  should be clear.

Charter confirms its validity as constitutional document for it is a public Act.

It grants patented powers & authorities to the recipient by the sovereign. Charter is higher than an Act

Unfortunately, after independence people overlooked this document

Constitution of India clearly provides all the existing laws & orders shall continue in force unless repealed by the president of India for 5+2 years I.e. up to 1954

Since this charter was not repealed, it is still in force as other parliament Acts prior to 1947 for example societies registration Act 1860, Electricity supply Act etc

As the charter itself grants the title Chartered Engineer (India) to corporate members which title is an Authority in its construction, IEI council has nothing to do with this grant once one is corporate member on roll. This title is a reference according to the provision on the   Constitution of India & more than license

Council charges fee to issue one formal certificate which even if not received does not make any problem & one can continue the seal of the title & name

Grades of membership classify the level of Chartered Engineer (India) senior or junior for the public. These certificates are addressed to public & notified

This title is not on behalf of IEI as the ‘India’ name is in the bracket which indicates the title from the union of India i.e. the President or the Constitution of India

So far there has been no case in India that some officer has given in writing the non-acceptance of this title. The only problem is that we do not respect ourselves.

Of course the local & other authorities are not so educated to know the implication of what they do due to bureaucratic style & we engineers submit to them so easily & obtain those illegal licenses of the statutes

I am sure that engineers know the meaning of the letters patents

Now allegation that IEI do not conduct examinations for election to IEI its candidates. It is the fault of corporate members as no one speaks or voices concerns. How many times we as integral part have written to the IEI about our concerns.

IEI is formed by us & not by its office bearers or council. Council reports to IEI members

Every corporate member has full right to come into council & serve the members through the council or committees

I suggest u to raise your concerns on the respective forum & not in public to maintain its image

I request u to do some good work for the betterment of the engineering community as a whole

When the supporter recommends the fitness of any candidate from the personal knowledge, what it means?

Should the supporter not scrutinize the candidate fully for the fit-ness

Why blame the IEI. Every member should do his part of the job rather

Profession- The term is very broad in its definition

Engineering profession is not only limited to the technical knowledge but also the  relevant working  knowledge of design management, contract management, field management, operation management, business management, labour management, plants management & many other management including working legal base, which only by virtue of many years of experience can be achieved not just 4 years

Architects are granted certificate of registration under the council of architecture & the registered person is given a title pf Architect

Doctors are given certificate of registration as entitled registered medical practitioner

Lawyers are entitled as Advocate

Shall someone show me any instrument giving the licence & not the title

Chartered Engineer (India) as well as Professional Engineer (India) both are titles according to Indian Law. Indian law recognizes the validity of these titles when consideration comes into the court

Quote from some web site

What is a Professional Engineer ?

THE PROFESSIONAL ENGINEER

Definiton

A professional engineer is competent by virtue of his fundamental education and training to apply the scientific method and outlook to the analysis and solution of engineering problems. He is able to assume personal responsibility for the development and application of engineering science and knowledge, notably in research, designing, construction, manufacturing, superintending, managing and in the education of the engineer. His work is predominantly intellectual and varied, and not of a routine mental or physical character. It requires the exercise of original thought and judgement and the ability to supervise the technical and administrative work of others.

His education will have been such as to make him capable of closely and continuously following progress in his branch of engineering science by consulting newly published work on worldwide basis, assimilating such information and applying it independently. He is thus placed in a position to make contributions to the development of engineering science or it applications.

His education and training will have been such that he will have acquired a broad and general appreciation of the engineering sciences as well as a thorough insight into the special features of his own branch. In due time he will be able to give authoritative technical advice, and to assume responsibility for the direction of important tasks in his branch.

Hello all
anyone can make mistake.
Once Dr. S. K. Jain himself wrote during a discussion  in SEFI
the courses on structural engg are most feared.
Hence, many toppers of CE may not be really good in structural engg courses
and vice versa.
So if there is any criteria it should be applicable for all i.e. engineers
from any institute.
If someone is considered best why should he be afraid of any examination?
