Dear All,

I appreciate Er. Sanjeev for uploading the life storey of our Er. Varyaniji!
Though biographies are sometimes boring to read, there are several biographies written on people from several walks of life, and some of them are self written. If any one is interested in biographies, I suggest them to visit http://oedb.org/ilibrarian/75-biographies-to-read-before-you-die/   which lists 75 biographies of people in Arts, History, Literature, Politics, Science and Technology.

The biographies of political leaders have sold in millions! Though I have not read many books on biographies, I read a book on Einstein, my favorite researcher. I have also read a biography by our Mahathma Gandhi(a must read for everyone).
Biographies can help promote self discovery, help us learn from other people's ideas and mistakes, and allow us to see the world in a new way.

But you might note, from the above website as well others, that Er. Varyani's is the first biography of a structural engineer, as per my knowledge. I have read it, as he was kind enough to send a copy by post to USA! It is short but surely help you to see the life of a structural engineer from his perspective! Happy reading! I read it in one day. I wish to thank him for taking time to recollect his memory and writing it for the benefit of fellow engineers.
Warm regards
NS

Dear Mr Varyani
I have really fond memories of having worked with you during the Hedgevar Hospital review at Delhi, where I had the privilege of getting your book, duly autographed! As of now, I am going through your Story of a Structural Engineer, which I’ve downloaded from SEFI. We have always learned a lot from stalwarts like you and will cherish these memories.

Wish you a long innings and best of health always!

Best Regards

Dear All,

It's shocking news but equally inspiring to realize the contributions/passion at age 80!, remarkable journey and suggest seniors (who were close friends/ practiced together ) to write a short book /article, which would act as a catalyst to many of our young engineers. Senior Indrajit Barua certainly lives in our time and forever as an inspirational Structural Engineer

Regards
M

Dear All:

I just learnt of the sad news of the passing on of one of our oldest SEFI members, Er. Indrajit Baruah. He was a  brilliant structural engineer and a mentor to many engineers in Assam. He has designed all kinds of interesting projects form buildings to bridges. He wrote some wonderful, wise posts on SEFI.

I had the pleasure of meeting him on an Earthquake Reconnaissance trip about 6 years ago after many years of e-knowing him on SEFI.

We will miss you, Mr Baruah. May your soul rest in peace.

best regards,
Alpa Sheth
