Dear Experts,

Can we take the benefit of this IS:1893-2016, cl:7.11.1.2, pg:26. ???

If yes then it is very beneficial to take advantage in tall structures. because Stiffness Modifier make the Storey-drift & Displacement more Governing.

clause says that Storey Drift & Displacement Check with Initial Scale factor IG/2R.


No need to scale up Dynamic Force.

So please give your valuable opinion

Dears,

Design base shear by dynamic methods shall not less than same calculated by equivalent static method hence result forces must be augmented by a factor according to code 1893-16 7.7.3. As far my knowledge there is no such similar clause in international codes.

above increments operation is only required for forces, not deflections and drifts according to code, it is a question of rationality rather than the benefit.

Initial Scale factor IG/2R is nothing do with the code, it is part of the formulation.

if spectra acceleration is normalised by g  (unitless) we should use IG/2R.  if you happen to work with field spectra with acceleration where it is not normalised ( units are in m2/s) then use I/2R.


please don't forget the fact that stiffness modifier makes the structure more flexible apparently (larger time period) and results in less base shear. you have to justify that you are not underestimating forces.
