Dear All,
As per IS 4562000, what is the effective span of a cantilever beam and maximum cantilever design moment.
The total length of the beam is 12 m.
It is partly resting on concrete wall below to a length of 9.75 m and clear cantilever span is 2.25 m.
No wall above. The beam is just resting with out any connections, except the friction.
The load per m run acting for the entire length of 12m on it including its self weight is, w Kn/m. say.
The clear cantilever span is 2.25m
What is the effective cantilever span for this plain concrete beam?
What is the maximum cantilever moment the beam would be subjected to or induced in the beam?
What is the design moment?
The beam is also subjected to an axial tension of say T KN, with out any eccentricity say.
What is the total tensile stress the beam is subjected to?
The width of the beam is 1000 mm
The depth of the beam is 2600 mm
What is the allowable tensile stress in this case?
Kindly guide me.
Many Thanks.
Kind Regards,
Raja Shekar.

Er. Rajasekhar,
You may please post a detailed diagram of your case, for the easy comprehension of your problem by SEFIans.

Exactly Jayakumar ji....
I wanted to answer this question but didn't gather the enthusiasm due to the fact that the person who posted the question above did not have the enthusiasm to upload a sketch.... a sign of this question not being very important to him... no offense to anyone please...

Er.Abishek and Er.Jayakumar,
Greetings.
As I was travelling,I could not respond early. Please find attached a plan and a section.
I am assuming a 1m wide strips with 2.6 m depth, where the tie beams are located for the purpose of analysis.
This slab/beam is partly resting on soil below( for 2.25m width) and rest of it having bearing below in concrete blocks.
As the soil has settled below it acts as a cantilever, with a tie beam at the edge. The tie beam size is 500 mm x 500 mm.
I hope it is clearly readable.
Many Thanks.
Raja Shekar

2.25m
What is the maximum cantilever moment the beam would be subjected to or induced in the beam?
329 kNm/m
What is the design moment? multiply 329 by suitable load factor
The beam is also subjected to an axial tension of say T KN, with out any eccentricity say.
What is the total tensile stress the beam is subjected to? = T/(1x2.6)
The width of the beam is 1000 mm
The depth of the beam is 2600 mm
What is the allowable tensile stress in this case?
The reinforcing steel will take tension. Hence whatever is the applicable axial tension limit of reinforcing steel. It think the rupture strength is the upper limit. You can divide by FOS as per applicable code.
Kindly guide me.
Many Thanks.

Raja Shekar.
