Exposed Plastering is generally done using 1 cement :3  Fine  sand . But mixing some 1 part out of 3 parts coarse sand is beneficial for durability , though specs are for fine sand plaster.

For Plastering on walls needing Tiles finish , plaster shall be from all coarse sand in ratio 1:3.

Before plaster application walls must be watered on face followed by  flashing of cement slurry. Also curing of plaster shall be done religiously.

Just a thought for durability.
