Dear Senior Sefians,
I am requesting all to through light on the above subject.
Design of a large size building of G+2 storied is under progress. Due to its large plan area, it is divided into 10 parts with separation joints.
As per clause 7.11.3 separation between Adjacent units of IS 1893 (Part1): 2016, the calculated separation gap joints are coming 450 mm.
Sefians are requested to provide solutions to overcome the problem.
Thanks in advance.

Dear Engs,
Please correct the following case ( IS 1893 (Part1): 2016)
Supposing:
G+1 Assume as 8mtsmax height
Response ReductionFactor = 3 ( OMRF)
Deflection ofbuilding as per Ch 6.4.3 ( elastic deformation from analysis program for Service combinations )
Say Max allowableDeflection or Storey drift = 0.004* 8000 = 32mm
The Separation Gap Should beas per 7.11.3
( R1 delta1 + R2 delta 2) = (3 * 32 + 3 * 32 ) = 192mm max
Regards

Dear fellow members,
In my opinion it will be suitable to provide the gap as per requirement and bridge it with flexible or easily yielding material, so that impact of one part is not carried to the adjoining structures. Er. Patwe |

Dear Er. mjnasar,
Allowable drift is 0.004%. For the 1mtr height of the building, allowable drift is 4mm of each side. Hence for 1mtr height, allowable thickness of separation joint is ((4mm+4mm)*5) 40mm considering Response reduction factor as "5". For the total height of the building of 10.00mtr separation gap thickness required is 400mm.
Dear Er. prashant,
I need to know the flexible or easily yielding material used in the present scenario.
Thanking you.
