Dear All,
Our recent project  is structurally designed considering Fe 500D and M40/M25 concrete in Cols and beams.
Now contractor has sought permission to use Fe 550D in place of Fe 500D.
The IS 13920 cl 5.3.1 states that
a) Fe 550 with elongation more than 14.5 percent can be used

b) actual 0.2% proof strength shall not exceed more than 20% than characteristic 0.2% proof strength
c) the ratio of actual ultimate strength to 0.2% proof strength shall be atleast 1.15.

All these above parameters are satisfied in Fe 550D steel.
Now my query is that
1) Is there any other design implication in using Fe 550D in buildings designed with Fe 500D?
2) Is there be any issue of beams being over reinforced in this case?

Wherever the reinforcement required is considerably higher than minimum, there will be significant savings in the rebar quantity when you use Fe550D which outweigh the cost difference. Some vendors supply Fe550D and Fe500D for the same price, I heard. 
 

For shear reinforcement, the code restricts the rebar strength to 415 MPa, so no additional advantage. Similarly where the reinforcement requirement is minimum, no additional advantage.

Do we have certified stress-strain values for Fe550 similar to Fe415 or Fe500 to be used in designs?
