Secondary beam are provided in order to divided the slab into small module so as to check the deflection and limit the design depth of slab . So is there any criteria for number of secondary beams in a slab that should be connected to primary beam ( or number of secondary beam that divide a slab) |

You can provide secondary beams in such a fashion that they divide the big size slab into smaller size panels of span (width) 3m to 4m.

Thank you sir, for your valuable reply but I want a further clarification regarding division of slab in following 2 cases :
1. Diving the slab(6.7m) into two smaller parts(3.35 m each ) by a secondary beam, which than passes through the mid point ( high bending moment ) of the primary beam
2.Dividing the slab(6.7m) into three smaller parts by two secondary beam
Both the conditions are practically feasible , but in the 1st case secondary beam passes through the primary beam in midpoint ( high bending moment) whereas in 2nd case it doesn't passes through mid point .
So taking into account of structural stability, would it be preferable to consider the 2nd case (wrt to 1 st case) to implementing in practical situation. |

I would advocate provision of a single secondary beam, in consideration of the increased cost of concrete, steel & form-work of an extra beam, even though the main beam will experience a slightly increased BM.
