Many Authors, Researchers & practitioners have worked against time and provided us with useful Books ,Handbooks, Design tables
etc., To name a few:
Formulas for stress and strains by Roark & Young
Moody'Tables providing coefficients for plates with full range of edge conditions and loadings .
Design of folded plate roofs - By UHVaryani A handbook giving coefficients for design of large span folded roofs
Chimney Foundations by Manohar *. - it gives coefficients for circular raft foundations for chimneys ( can be used elsewhere like OH water tanks)
* Pardon for not recollecting full name

Some more references
Hand book by Mark FINTEL is very useful . It also provides curve for requirement of tension reinforcement for specified member length without contraction joints. Used especially for water retaining structures
Foundation design by Wyne C Teng - it provides Curves for biaxial bending of footings subjected to upliftment.
Reynold Handbook is known to one & All
Pigued's curves for slab design with concentrated loads - used mostly in bridge designs
Steel Designer's MANUAL - highly useful for structural analysis and provides extraordinary help to steel Designer's, and analysis part also equally to Rcc designers

Books & Handbooks
I think in today's computer aided environment with availability of softwares , need for these practical books ( which once used to enrich the library of all structural consultants ) might go down . Still these books & HB's will remain source of knowledge . These can enthuse added confidence in structural engineers.

Few papers were extensively used for design of rcc column sections mostly for bridges
Paper by Dr VK Raina on design of rcc columns subjected to uniaxial bending
Paper by Dr VK Raina on design of rcc column section subjected to biaxial bending
The above papers were in working stress design.
The procedure given is iterative type . |

Forgot to mention regarding Dr VKRaina's more a papers on column design
Paper on solid circular rcc column subjected to resultant BM
Useful for circular piers design
Paper on annular rcc column subjected to resultant BM
Useful for annular columns , well foundation steining design |

A handbook was published in 1970's or so by National Building Organisation , Ministry of Works & Housing and Urban Development GOI.
Handbook for Building Engineers
Was useful during manual design era but is still referred by consultants wherever available.
May be available in Libraries of Govt Deptts concerning Civil works. |

A paper by our respected octogenarian Sh UH Varyani Saheb
While writing about the edge footing at boundary line , it reminded me of my meeting with UHVaryani sir way back in 1994 or so. Apart from many questions on structures by my colleague s accompanying me , I asked about the edge footing. The answer was on table in form of his paper published by ,I think, ICJ and he gave each one of us photocopy.
Just a meeting experience with living legend |

Govt Organisations -
On the topic of useful references ,we must not forget the contribution of two Organisations of Govt of India for publishing large nos of papers after continued research by the their engineer-Scientists :
The Structural Engineering Research Centre (SERC) , earlier at Roorkee
CBRI - Central Building Research Institute , also at Roorkee
These Organisations have very good Libraries, at times when Books were the only source of knowledge and information about latest research on structural &Civil Engg. |

Torsteel Foundation's contribution
The ultimate load theory , prior to introduction to Limit state concept , was included in IS 456 , but was not popular in design offices due to time consuming lengthy computations. The Torsteel Foundation , came forward and published their Handbook , with Torsteel reinf provision. It made the USM popular , as ready availability of tables were there in HBook.
SP 16 was prepared on same lines , later by , BIS covering steel different steel fy with LSM. |

It is advisable to digitalise such very useful books that have become out-of-print.
