Subject : E-conference for Discussion on New BIS document  SSD-II 06 (19914) : REQUIREMENTS FOR STRUCTURAL DESIGN AND PROOF CHECKING CONSULTANCY SERVICES FOR STRUCTURES

Greetings!

SEFI is proud to announce an Econference on a New Draft issued by Bureau of Indian Standards for wide circulation on "REQUIREMENTS FOR STRUCTURAL DESIGN AND PROOF CHECKING CONSULTANCY SERVICES FOR STRUCTURES"

A copy of the draft document is attached for reference. The document has been uploaded on SEFI website ( Download | Alternate Download Link  ) It may also be accessed from BIS website at https://www.services.bis.gov.in/php/BIS_2.0/dgdashboard/draft/darftdetailcomm/404/3/SSD-II-06

The document, currently in the wide circulation phase, if implemented , will likely  impact all structural engineers working as  Principal Design Consultant or as Peer Reviewer.  It will also affect  the current building permit system in municipal authorities and development authorities which presently varies city wise and state-wise.  This e-conference is intended to elicit feedback from the structural engineering community about the proposed code.


All structural engineers should critically review this code and share inputs for improvement. The e-conference will be for a week, starting August 29 (to September 4) 2022. Topics will be discussed under different threads (email headers). Attendees are encouraged to post their inputs in the specific threads  new topics may be suggested to the moderators, and will be considered for an email thread.

The introductory note on Monday morning will provide information regarding moderators, econference email id and other important details.

We look forward to your spirited  participation in the Econference!

Dear Team

Please note the following observations


1. In most cases, the principal design consultant (PDC) is engaged by the architect and not by the owners. 

2. The responsibilities should be clearly mentioned for PDC and Proof Consultant (PC).
3. Checklist should be added as an annexure for PC.
4. The contactor should not engage PDC.
5. The projects should be designed by registered firms only. Nowadays every engineer from every office is designing independently as a freelancer.
6. Role of a Geotechnical Engineer should also be added.
