Dear All,
In columns, we get more axial load and less moments on the lower floor, less axial force, and more moments on the upper floors. While providing the reinforcement, can we provide less reinforcement on the lower floors and more reinforcement on the upper floors by keeping the same size of the column throughout the floor? Which is an economical solution?

You can provide more reinforcement in the column at the top floor level.

Dear Sir,
    I would recommend keeping the higher steel required at upper floors in the lower floor also rather than increasing the reinforcement in upper floors. For one, it reduces the chance of confusion to contractor. More importantly, if the construction is unexpectedly halted at the lower level, the load and moment in that level will mimic the upper level of the completed structure and will require the higher steel quantity.
