PRESENTATION OF DESIGN CALCULATIONS  - AN ART BEYOND DESCRIPTION S

From some sample calculation sheets uploaded here,, one must say that Presentations of Structutal design calculations  , for all structure, especislly BRIDGES ,  is fine Art .
This Art was master crafted by Mentor  and International Expert on Bridges, Dr VKRaina ( a living legend) ,, because of his  clarity of concepts.

His planning of presentation was such that a fresher enering the consulting  firm could able to handle designs following sample calcs.

Just paying respect to the great Engineer of Bridges.

(MOI)b = ( MOI)  + A Xb^2

Hence MOI  =  (MOI)b  -  A Xb^2


MOI = Moment of Inertia of section at its centroid

(MOI) b = Moment of Inertia at bottom of girder

A = Area of section

Xb  = distance of centroid of section ftom bottom of girder

DESIGN CALCULATIONS PRESENTATIONS :-

As already said ,, that need for clear presentation of calculations in bridge designs was  necessary for reasons of quick internal checkings at three levels,, Checking by Ministry of Surface Transport /State PWDs / or their proof consultants.

Internal checking in Consulting Firm GILCON / New Delhi :

Any mistake or slip was intended to be avoided and hence CHECKING WAS GIVEN DUE IMPORTANCE,  Checking was done at three /four levels :-
I) Design done by Junior Design Consultant was fully checked by another Jr Design Consultant,  
(ii) Checked and faif copy was sent to Senior Design Consultant who check the calculations in his way and match the results.  Pl note, No axel,, No computer age.
He will supervise drgs, vslready in preparation along with Jr Consultants. Head draftsman to assist in drgs preparations.

(iii) Checked drgs snd designs were further checked by Deputy Chief consultant Mr VR Kittur a bridge expert with Construction as well as design experience,, broadly,, but drgs were checked very thoroughly .

(iv) Final checking and approval by Dr VK Raina. He always used to devote time to each submission of Drgs and design, and never acted only as Administrator .  

Benefits of checking were manifold.
