ôHi all,

My question is a very basic one. what is the exact reason why an RCC
wall is totally unavoidable around lifts in a building. Do anyone know of
any instance where lifts were designed without an RCC walls around it.

Regards,
Akbar

There is no reason that we must have to go for RCC wall around lift. The
reason behind it to use RCC wall is to use these walls as shear walls
for building which is optional and to accommodate insert plates and
runners required for functioning of lift. It is possible to provide
concrete column for runner as well as inserts and to construct remaining
part with masonry.
