Pl. find the RCC Rectangular Column Design Excel Worksheet with Updates :
1. It calculates approx. percentage steel required to satisfy all given load combination to assist selecting rebar details
2. It incorporates Fe 415 and Fe 500 grade steel
3. Fck upto M60 considered.
The worksheet is protected without password, Macros are also kept open.
As this worksheet is used by PG structures faculty & students at no. of Institutes.
Pl. keep it protected while using so that the equations remains unaltered.

Dear Sefians,
Beware, it is dangerous to use any spreadsheet for design of columns which doesn't consider length of column and support condition, as it may lead to under-design and less reinforcement.

Sir,
If we are including the moment due to slenderness, what will be the problem?
Please clear my doubt.
Sudhakaran.

Please give me a solution or a spreadsheet to design a RCC column with Axial Load and Biaxial moment (As per IS:456-2000) without using of SP16 , i mean to say that the interaction diagram will generate automatically & from that the necessary values will be taken for column reinforcement/capacity design.
Thanks & Regards

Dear Er. Sudhakaran, and Sefians,
I agree that if you are including the additional moments due to slenderness effect of the column in the final design moments, then there is no problem in using the spreadsheet for the column design. In many cases, the column moments obtained by the elastic analysis are used in the spreadsheet, without considering the additional moments due to slenderness effect.
The calculations of additional moments as per IS 456 : 2000 involves determination of unsupported length of column, effective length of column as per Annex E of the code, calculation of Pz, Mux1 and Muy1 and inter-active formula as per clause 39.6 of the code, and calculation of additional moments as per clause 39.7 of the code. How many designers would care to do all this manually? Many designers believe that it is all done in the elastic analysis, but it is not the case.
The spreadsheets for column design which do not calculate the additional moments due to slenderness effect, should mention it so clearly in the notes so that the additional moments can be calculated manually by the user and added to the design moments obtained by the elastic analysis, prior to using the spreadsheet. Otherwise, there is certainly misuse of the spreadsheet and possible danger of under-design of the column as I mentioned earlier.
