Dear Er.J.K,

You can refer Tomilson book on Pile foundation and I do remember that in case of overlapping as shown in the images of Er.Christy is possible by placing a compressive pad that is used for expansion joint. I will try to quote the exact pages when I get time to read.

Dear Sir,
Here, the concern is not that of overlapping or nearly touching each other of the two footings. F8 has its column placed on it with huge eccentricity ( just like edge column that we already discussed) so that tension may develop under it. Hence I recommended the merger of F1 and F8 to form a single combined footing.

Dear Sir,
Overlapping of foundation is also a criteria i'm worried about.
the pressure bulb of the two footings overlap thereby reducing the efficiency of both the footings.
this might lead to a greater settlement of footing (exceeding the soil report)  in the process.
Also in the overlapped portion the pressure exerted by the footing will also increase dramatically.

The solution as slab and beam type combined footing can be done. Also I would like to know that, when the columns are in different orientation can they be tied together using the above mentioned type of footing.

Regards
ChristyRoy

Dear
ChristyRoy,

You can provide the slab and beam type combined footing in inclined orientation. No harm. But, the width of the beam may have to be increased to accommodate the oblique orientation of the column, then.
