|

Dear Sir,
I have a problem in design a multistory hospital building at Shillong. My points of concern are:
1. Contours of site shows very steep slopes, with SBC of 140 KN/m3,
2. Building is gradually increasing in dimension, i.e. less area in lower floors and large area on upper floors.
3. Architectural grid is only 5 x 5 m and in some places even less.
4. Differential settlement of footings at different levels is major problem.
Can u please guide me to the foundation arrangement for the building as isolated foundations are coming at different depths and it is uneconomical to provide retaining walls for each level difference in the plan. Also what extra load I have to consider for the soil pressure on the columns at lower floors.
Regards

Dear Rahul,
Please enclose a line diagram for the same giving the detail of existing ground level and the Finished ground level ...Shillong is in undulating terrian..and it will be difficult for u to keep the foundation at same depth.....and do remember shillong is in seismic zone V...and also u r designing a very important structure...so u have to be very careful if u r thinking of keeping foundation at different level....
